Founder and Chairman
Jirka Rysavy, founder, Chairman and CEO of Gaia, has been Chairman since inception and has served as Chief Executive Officer (except from March 2009 to July 2016). Mr. Rysavy is the beneficial owner of approximately 38% of Gaia outstanding shares. In 1986, Mr. Rysavy founded Corporate Express, Inc., which, under his leadership as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, grew to become a Fortune 500 company with $4.7 billion of revenue. Mr. Rysavy also founded and served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Crystal Market, a health foods concept, which was sold in 1987 to become the concept and first Wild Oats Markets store. Mr. Rysavy was also Chairman of Real Goods Solar, Inc., founded within Gaiam in 1999 and brought public in 2009. Mr. Rysavy resigned from the board of Real Goods Solar in June 2013 after Gaiam sold its investment.
Mr. Warkins became Gaia’s President in July 2016. Prior to this, Mr. Warkins has held various positions within Gaia’s subscription segment, including serving as President since February 2015 and Chief Operating Officer since December 2013. Mr. Warkins previously held the position of Vice President from 2007 to November 2013, responsible for operating and building Gaia's subscription business. From 1999 until 2007 Mr. Warkins served as President of Conscious Media, Inc., a company majority owned by Gaia, and purchased by Gaia in 2007.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Tarell became Gaia’s Chief Financial Officer in July 2016. Prior to this, Mr. Tarell, was Chief Financial Officer of Gaia’s subscription segment since May 2014 and Vice President of Finance since September 2013. From January 2012 until August 2013, Mr. Tarell was Head of Finance and Operations of SET Media, Inc. (acquired by Conversant, Inc.), an online video technology company. From October 2010 until March 2012, Mr. Tarell was Senior Director of Finance at Velti, Inc., a mobile advertising technology company. From 2005 until September 2010, Mr. Tarell was a licensed CPA in California, working in public practice at Armanino LLP.
Chief Operating Officer and Director
Ms. Mellencamp joined Gaia in May 2019 as an independent director and in November of 2019 became our Chief Operating Officer. Previously, Ms. Mellencamp was General Manager and subsequently Chief Executive Officer and President of Vimeo, a leading global video platform and subscription service. During her tenure from January 2009 to March 2015, Vimeo grew to become a top video site reaching over 160 million monthly users worldwide, expanded to multiple languages and new platforms from mobile to OTT and developed a SaaS offering with over 500,000 paying subscribers. From 2004 to 2008, Ms. Mellencamp served as Senior Vice President, Product Management for About.com, a topic-based content site owned by The New York Times Company. Ms. Mellencamp began her internet career in 1997 serving in various leadership and product management roles of both early-stage start-up and established companies including Cablevision, Prodigy Services Company, iWon.com, and Ameritrade Holding Corporation. Since 2016, Ms. Mellencamp has also served as a member of the Brown University Communications Advisory Council.
